MALMÖ - 09/11 - Inkonst - In Dance

MALMÖ - 09/11 - Inkonst - In Dance

We return to Inkonst in Malmö for another Circle Of Live jam on November 9!

Inkonst is Malmö’s hub for left-field, underground dance and experimental music, the home to the boundary-pushing Intonal Festival and also part of the inspiration for Sebastian Mullaert’s new solo album. It’s safe to say, we are happy and grateful for any opportunity to come and share music at this amazing space.

This time it will be Dorisburg, Matt Karmil, Sebastian Mullaert and Vril in control, or not, as the case may be... Come join and see where they take us.

XLR8R+ 15 - MOVEMENT DETROIT

XLR8R+ 15 - MOVEMENT DETROIT

We are honoured to have the opportunity to curate the next edition of the XLR8R+ record label concept, following on from an impressive catalogue of releases coming from artists like Roman Flugel, Fred P, Lawrence, DVS1, Tom Trago, Levon Vincent, µ-Ziq, Wata Igarashi, Fluxion, Scuba amongst many other greats.

Over the next few weeks we will share a number of pieces themed around our performance from Movement Festival in Detroit earlier this year. This was a certainly a show to remember, as all possible weather and technical conditions went against us on the day and we were on the edge of cancelling the show. We endured everything from flight delays, through to rain at an outdoor festival (never a winner), the roof of our tent splitting in two and tons of water pouring millimetres away from the live rig, monitoring issues, sound bleed from the other stages, you name it! On top it was the very first time we welcomed both Amp Fiddler and Vril for their debut performance, so we certainly carry a couple of white hairs on our heads from this day. We rolled with the punches though and got the jam going… it was just straight magic from the very start. Gangster grooves from Vril, pure love beaming from Mr Fiddler’s soulful chords and vocals, Mathew sounded as Detroit as the native born artists performing at the festival, Sebastian was in a total flow and we ended with Amp on the microphone with the whole crowd singing along. Not a typical Circle Of Live jam to say the least :)

Four our contribution to the XLR8R+ series we kick off with a four-track offering from all the artists who took part in this jam Amp Fiddler, Mathew Jonson, Sebastian Mullaert and Vril.

Mathew Jonson’s track, titled “When I think about Detroit,” was written especially for his live set at Movement back in 2012. It’s only been heard live once before, and it’s now available for the first time here. Amp Fiddler, a Detroit native, has delivered a track from his The Digitarians project, titled “Know Your Way.” It’s a brooding cut, lightened with some vocals towards the end. Closing the release is Vril, who returns to XLR8R+ with a more ambient cut that serves as a snapshot of his new album, details to come soon. There’s also a bonus track from Sebastian Mullaert himself, called “Ever Closer,” which is a fully-improvised live jam recorded specifically for XLR8R+.

As for extras, we have two to announce. Firstly, we have a two-hour segment of the Circle of Live Movement improvisation, the first time it’s ever been heard outside of the moment, which will appear over the next weeks. Secondly, each artist has written a ‘Live Essentials’ piece, detailing the gear they used in Detroit which is available in the form of an 16 page e-zine supplied with this release.

We want to send a massive thank you for Chuck Flask, Ernie Guerra and Sam Fotias from Paxahau / Movement Festival for the trust and giving us the opportunity to perform at and troubleshooting our debut North American Circle Of Live performance. Kevin Reynolds for running the stage with us on the day, solving all the problems we encoutered and his endless creative solutions against all the elements. Also Nick LeTellier for the wonderful photos he captured which grace the cover of this release.

Enjoy the music and thank you for all the support and good energy everyone has been sending our way!

AMSTERDAM - 17/10 - De Waalse Kerk - In Dreams

AMSTERDAM - 17/10 - De Waalse Kerk - In Dreams

We are thrilled to present a new chapter in the evolution of our project: “In Dreams” sleeping concert series. The intention behind these all-night, improvised, live ambient performances is to explore the full range of mind states occurring between sleep and consciousness, in the context of a shared collective experience.

The first In Dreams event will occur in collaboration with Amsterdam promoter Breakfast Club. Taking place in the spectacular 15th century, architectural marvel that is De Waalse Kerk church, Johanna Knutsson and Sebastian Mullaert will guide the audience through their dreams for 8 hours during regular sleeping times. De Waalse Kerk will be transformed into the ADE Zen Space for the week, and the concert will be staged within a lightscape installation and on a stage designed by Studio Koen Steger. Starting at 23:00 onwards on Thursday October 17th, the event will conclude with a breakfast at 7:00AM and provide a chance for everyone to reflect on and exchange stories from their experiences during a night of mutual dreaming.

By the means of live improvisation, Johanna and Sebastian will try to use the misty borderland between sleep and consciousness to their advantage, through sparse expansive ambient soundscapes. Can dreams be gently manipulated by a musical excursion through the unconscious landscape within? Can dreams be experienced collectively through a controlled collective experience? Will you float in a state of mind wondering whilst awake or enter a full on lucid dream? Or will you simply sleep like a baby? There’s only one way to find out, but this is a strictly limited event so don’t sleep on it (pun intended)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Please be ready to enter the venue a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the concert. For the purpose of minimising disturbance of the collective experience, no entry will be allowed past the 23:00 starting point.

  • We will not provide your sleeping arrangements, so please bring your own pillow, cover or sleeping bag, bedroll, camping mattress etc. Or perhaps borrow from your hotel! Due to the limited space we will not allow big ol’ electrical inflatable beds or bulky mattresses. Use your common sense and get cozy!

  • Fruit and water will be readily available during the night. You’re allowed to bring some light refreshments but keep it simple. And more importantly quiet. Alcoholic beverages are absolutely forbidden.

  • Breakfast is included in the ticket price and we will serve vegetarian / vegan options.

  • For some, this will be a night filled with musical wonder. Others will perhaps fall asleep at 23:05, with dreams heavily infused by Knutsson & Mullaert. Either way, mutual respect and consideration are key words. There will be a host available at all times, at your service.

  • We reserve the right to exclude anyone not observing these requirements. But of course you will. It will be fantastic.

GENEVA - 29/11 - Le Zoo

GENEVA - 29/11 - Le Zoo

Circle Of Live is coming to Switzerland for the first time on November 29.

Representing circlists: Neel, Sebastian Mullaert and Peter Van Hoesen, so if you were there for the otherworldly techno trip in Barcelona this Summer, you will know the magic these three can create together.

We’re excited that the venue hosting the jam will be Geneva’s go-to underground house and techno space Le Zoo. It has a slick, dimly-lit aesthetic and emphasis on subtly psychedelic visuals, perfectly suited for our six hours of sonic wandering.

BERLIN - 15/09 - Mother's Finest x Freerotation

BERLIN - 15/09 - Mother's Finest x Freerotation

We are returning to Berlin for a very special collaboration with Mother’s Finest and Freerotation Festival taking place at Griessmuehle on Sunday September 15th.

Those of you who attended our debut performance in Funkhaus last year can expect to experience something quite different, as we are bringing a completely different constellation of artists with representing circlists Sebastian Mullaert, Steevio & Suzybee and Tobias.

The artists will enter the flow of improvisation at 22:00 on Sunday evening and conclude at 4:00 in the morning, so be there right from the start to experience the whole journey.

The Saturday night programme looks absolutely amazing, so you will probably find us on the dancefloor shaking hips to DJ Bone, Shackleton, Pearson Sound, Willow, Leif, Elisabeth, Tom Ellis, Grimes Adhesif, Miriam Schulte and Franklin De Costa.

We have a limited allocation of 50% discounted tickets available exclusively to our mailing list subscribers, so if you haven’t singed up yet you can still join here http://eepurl.com/dz2b7f

Very much looking forward to this weekend. See you in Berlin!

POZNAN - 26/10 - Tama - Announcement

POZNAN - 26/10 - Tama - Announcement

We are bringing the circle for our debut show in Poland at he excellent club Tama in Poznan.

Representing circlists Frank Wiedemann (Âme Live), Sebastian Mullaert and Vril.

It’s always exciting to mix artists from different musical worlds, as then we have even less of a clue where the improvisation will take us. We remember the moment of excitement just before powering up at Movement Festival in Detroit earlier this year and the feeling of literally not having any idea how artists as diverse as Amp Fiddler, Mathew Jonson, Sebastian Mullaert and Vril can fuse their sounds in something coherent. Little did we know that turned out to be one of the most fun performances we ever experienced. We plan to take things in even more diverse perspective in the future, by bringing together artists from completely different universes like our forthcoming concert at Malmö Live with Subchamber Ensmble.

Let’s see where the flow takes us on this one.

MALMO - 27/09 - Malmö Live - In Concert

MALMO - 27/09 - Malmö Live - In Concert

We are opening an exciting new chapter for Circle Of Live with series of improvised performances, bringing together artists from the contemporary classical and electronic music scene. The first of the Circle Of Live “In Concert” event series will take place as an aftershow to the Jeff Mills & Tony Allen gig on September 27th at the spectacular Malmö Live concert house.

The fully improvised live performance will feature two electronic artists: Sebastian Mullaert playing alongside Laurence Guy, who will make his highly anticipated debut in the project. They will weave their creative expressions into those of three instrumentalists from Subchamber Ensemble. Under the creative direction of New York film composer Nathan Larson, Subchamber Ensemble will feature himself, performing alongside Gerda Holmquist on cello, as well as Elina Nygren on viola - both members of the critically acclaimed Vindla String Quartet.

As usual we have no clue where the flow of improvisation will take us and there is only one way to find out.

Waking Life - 14/08 - Nikita Goile

Waking Life - 14/08 - Nikita Goile

We are delighted to announce that our stage at Waking Life Festival this year will be graced by one last minute addition to the roster of performing artists. Nikita Goile is a different kind of artist than the ones we usually work with. She expresses through movement rather than sound.

Two words which describe her work are timeless and organic. She uses improvisation to open up and escape restrictive habits and existing patterns, allowing mind and body to be genuine and drift off. The subtle journey between opposite qualities is at the core of her work, as well as the notion of control and its loss which generate, and regenerate, a perpetual evolution.

Nikita will join our concert for the festival opening ceremony alongside Johanna Knutsson, Leafar Legov, Sebastian Mullaert and Matt Karmil. This will also be the first appearance by Erased Tapes Records very own vibraphone magician Masayoshi Fujita. A totally new constellation and so much to look forward to!
